This is an archive of the band profile for Waif & Stray.

Waif & Stray were formed in early 2008 after lead singer Danny Bowden's previous band Separatists folded after only a wee while of wondrous existence. Having been in Tunji for five years previously, Danny was eager to get going again and so, with Newcy Brown, Red Stripe, tabs and bifter in hand, he descended on Harehills to weave Ben Kershaw into his plans.Ben and his guitar accepted the proposals and Waif & Stray have gone on from strength to strength ever since, with a regular gigging, rehearsal and songwriting ethic taking a good ol' root! At present predominantly acoustic, Waif & Stray are seeking out new members to further open Pandora's Box.Comparisons to Billy Bragg, The Fall, Pearl Jam and System of a Down made by people at gigs may not lead to the best overview of the Waif & Stray sound, though Sue Armstrong of The Fox & Newt probably hit the nail on't head with her "Off the wall, vocal, polital acoustica!" statement.Equal parts Americana, grunge, rock and pop make for a smorgasbord of sound, topped off with biting lyrics sung in Danny's own inimitable way.
