Leeds band Wild Beasts and solo artist Corinne Bailey Rae have today been announced as nominees for the 2010 Mercury Prize.

They join Dizzee Rascal, Paul Weller, The XX, Laura Marling, Mumford and Sons, Biffy Clyro, Foals, Villagers, I Am Kloot and the Kit Downes Trio.

The Mercury Prize is open to UK and Irish acts who have released albums over the past year. Wild Beasts are nominated for their second album, 'Two Dancers', and Corinne Bailey Rae has been nominated for her 'The Sea' album.

The winner of the £20,000 prize will be announced live on BBC Two on 7th September 2010. Lauren Laverne will present the programme, with the Awards Show event itself hosted by Jools Holland.
