This is an archive of the band profile for John Parkes.

JP has played in various underground indie rock bands that flirted with success over the years and started doing solo singer- songwriter stuff in the mid noughties.

Plays various gigs generally in the Northern half of England - quite likely to pop up as a special guest at your local acoustic night, though has recently played an odd mixture of charity gigs, public events, open mic nights and the odd festival, playing 2 sets at Beautiful Days in Devon in 2012 for example.

Lyrical obsessions include love, longing, lust, religion, bits of politics, self examination, the meaning of life, TV, general angst and touches of black humour.

Released 2 solo critically acclaimed solo acoustic albums - Faithlessnessless in 2006 and Illegal Songs in 2008 before taking time out to concentrate on other things including playing in Leeds indie guitar band Whole Sky Monitor - who got picked up by Radio 1 and 6 Music leading to gigs and various releases including the Bland Bland Bland (2007) and Twisted Little Piggies (2010) albums and the singles Harehills Chapeltown (2007), Cinenema (2008), Sold (2010) and Freak Show (2011).

Most recently John has been recording with Neil Ferguson (producer etc for Chumbawamba, New Model Army and various folk luminaries) - the first release from these sessions was the 4-track Don't be Seventeen EP (December 2012)

The long awaited new album 'Bleeding Edge / Distant Past' is released on AAZ Records on 4th November 2013 - first radio play was by Mr Alan Raw on BBC Radio Leeds in August 2013..
