This is a review of "Ranaboy EP" recorded by Ranaboy. The review was written by Richard Garnett in 2004.

One man and his acoustic guitar scenarios will inevitably pull in the Damien Rice, Nick Drake, Adem comparisons but Andrew Roberts has enough of himself in these cleverly and sensitively penned ditties to pull it off.

With a sweet voice and ear for the impassioned melody Andrew takes us through his emotive world, although it sounds like quite a sad one. All three tracks display the same splendid level song-smithery and if it were mixed up with the occasional full band or addition of different instruments ala Damien Rice we would be really cooking with gas.

Standout track of this splendid bunch is opener "Loose on the tide" but they're all pretty fine. More from Mr Roberts will certainly be welcome.
