This is a review of "Untitled" recorded by The Pretty Machine. The review was written by Richard Garnett in 2005.

It's a genuine shame that throughout the 4 songs on offer from Huddersfield's The Pretty Machine the kick drum infuriatingly sounds likes a wet fart being loudly let off in your ear. It's so bad on opener "Mindicide" that to the casual listener it would disguise the fact that this is in an excellent rock rollock.

Before the "reviewers should see past it" lobby begin rallying, The Pretty Machine have a keen ear for a tune and melody. Imagine 3 Colours Red and The Wildhearts with all the pop sense of Feeder being played with a big grin. Pity it sounds like it was recorded from the room next door. The aforementioned Mindicide tops the bill with Perma-Downer a close second.

Although slightly dated in style, as The Wildhearts recent mini-resurgence has demonstrated there is still large crowds of sweaty lads willing to be entertained with good honest full throttle guitar like this. Better recording and bigger sound and next time it'll be the business.
