Next month, Leeds Town Hall will celebrate its 150th anniversary and Leeds International Concert Season will mark this special occasion with a celebratory concert. Taking place on Saturday 6 September, the actual anniversary weekend of the opening of the Town Hall by Queen Victoria, this choral and orchestral concert will involve music and performers associated with Leeds’ rich musical heritage.

The evening will feature the Orchestra of Opera North alongside Leeds Festival Chorus and Leeds Philharmonic Chorus, conducted by Richard Farnes. There will also be a chance to hear Sunwook Kim, winner of the Leeds International Pianoforte Competition 2006, performing Grieg’s Piano Concerto.

Audiences will be treated to a spectacular programme including Barber’s beautiful Adagio for Strings, as heard in the films Platoon and The Elephant Man.

The highlight of the night is sure to be the performance of Belshazzar’s Feast by Walton, which was commissioned for and first performed at the 1931 Leeds Festival and will feature the city’s two great choirs.

Tickets are priced from £15 to £30. To book, call the Box Office on 0113 224 3801 or visit www.leedsconcertseason.com.
